Last night I came back from Japanese class to find this parked in front of my house.

*grin*

It’s a 1996 Jetta manual.  Unlike the Civic it has air conditioning, which doesn’t change much for me because I’d still rather have outside air filling the car.  But it’s still a nice feature to have.  The windshield is cracked on the passenger side but that’ll be fixed today and for some reason you can only unlock the car from the passenger side.  Hopefully that’ll be rectified soon.  It’s so nice to have a 3:4 ratio again.

…or all morning, whatever.

Went to a club in The City with Leanna and two of her friends from school.  We didn’t start dancing until 12:40 because the line was longer than we anticipated.  But she and I danced continually for 2 hours.  So.Much.Fun.  The guys hitting on us wasn’t very fun but we just told them we were together and most of the time they got the hint and hightailed it outta there.  Well, as fast as you can in a very crowded room full of dancing fools.  I am now exhausted and have the beginning of a blister on my left foot but I’d say it was worth it.

I’m actually looking forward to school.  After this semester I only have to take a Math class to complete my GE.  Hopefully I’ll be able to transfer in a year.  Who knows where but just knowing that in a year I could be somewhere else is really exciting.  I feel like such a freeloader right now and am anxious to rid myself of that feeling.

(This is my 100th post.)

Yesterday I hung out with some kids from work.  One of them was in my group last summer and this.  They are a wonderful family and I’m so glad I was able to spend time with them.

I arrived at their house at 2:30, the time their dad had told me to come.  The oldest was the only one home because the other two were at a birthday party.  So we sat in the living room talking and he showed me his claymation video he made at a summer camp.  At about 3 they came back from the party and we went to pick Micah and Sarah up from the skate park near by.   Our first stop was the bowling alley.  We played one game of bumper bowling.  We dropped Micah and Sarah off at Silvia’s and headed off to Safeway for fun with helium.

After buying our hot dog balloon we went back to the car and took lots of video of our chipmunk voices.  We were all pretty hungry so we stopped at Yumi Yogurt and enjoyed "child" sized awesomeness.  I asked if they wanted to go anywhere else so after calling their mom we decided to stop by the park near their house.  We arrived at the house at 6:30 and when their dad came back we all went inside.  I ended up talking to John and Gabriela for almost two hours after which they invited me to stay for dinner.  We were going to play Cranium but didn’t have enough time when we finished dinner.  So they invited me to come back for a game night.

I didn’t get home until 10, spending almost 7 hours with them.  I’m really looking forward to the game night.

Friday was the last day for the summer session at work.  I/we:

-Got pushed in the pool by Kevin
-Sucked more helium
-Had a pizza and root beet party
-Went crazy in the sanctuary
-Put on a circus for all the parents
-Bbq’ed hot dogs across the bridge
-Was pushed in the PCC pool by Paul, Noah and other boys
-Helped push Betsy and Elle in
-Played in pool and I was last counselor to get out
-Went to Sky High (amazing trampoline place) from 9:30-10:30

Sorry I didn’t go into more detail.  But those were the important points of the last day of work.  See the pictures from the whole summer.

日本 5:48 pm

A year ago today Dad and I boarded a plane and flew across the Pacific ocean to a little island called Japan.  I spent the next 8 months going to Temple University, traveling and experiencing the culture.  Sometimes I can’t believe I was there, that I lived outside of this country for 8 straight months, that I lived in any house but this one, that I saw a country seeped in traditions and was finally able to live out my dream.  But then I see how far I’ve come in a year and how my views on life and myself have evolved.  So much has happened in this year and I know this next year will bring many more challenges and changes.  But I look forward to them, to the good and the bad.  I’m still learning who I am and where I fit in this world, but I’m more confident in where I’m headed.  I know God has great plans for me and I’m anxious to see them carried out.

Whoo hoo!  Isn’t it gorgeous?  Thanks to my parents and Marilyn who "bought" it for me; I’m happy to finally have a real mp3 player.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my little shuffle (or stick of gum as I like to call it), but only being able to bring 130 songs with me out of my 4,700 songs?  Man, I was hurting.  It is currently syncing my music (and the episodes of The Office) and has quite a ways to go before it’s done.  But when it’s finished… : )

Today was interesting.  I got up at 6:20, was out the door at 7 and was planning on riding the train instead of biking all the way to work.  I got to the station right as the train was pulling up to the platform.  But when I reached into my pocket I couldn’t find my 10-ride pass (which had 4 more rides left).  Realizing that I didn’t have enough time to buy a ticket before the train left, I just went back down the ramp and rode my bike to work.  Right before I got to the last hill, I accidentally changed to the first gear.  Whenever I do that, the chain comes off.  So I pulled my bike up onto the sidewalk, laid the bike down and as quickly as I could, put the chain back on the gear.  My fingers were black and I was definitely ready for my shower.

When Marissa arrived she came in carrying a balloon and a homemade card (with an Airhead taped inside).  She may aspire to be a teacher’s pet, but I love her to death.  During snack, Paul gave me a Ding Dong, Ramya had made me a card during Choice Time, Grayson handed me a nice pen (not sure if he had randomly found it and decided to give it to me, I like to think he actually planned on giving it to me), and Alec gave me his fuse-bead dog.  Before I was allowed to eat my Ding Dong all the kids sang to me.  I shoved the handle of a spoon into the Ding Dong and "blew out" the spoon.

At the beginning of Bible Time, Justin was asking what normally happens on Wednesday and all my kids started shouting "K’s birthday!!".  Eventually they stopped yelling and Justin asked if they should sing for me.  So I went up to the stage while all the kids sang.  It made my day.  After that, a lot of kids I didn’t even know were wishing me a happy birthday.

After the pool and second snack, my kids all went into the classroom (I had been told many times by Paul not to enter the room until I was told to do so).  After about 3 minutes of waiting outside, they said I could come inside.  Walking up to the classroom I noticed that there were streamers taped to the window and when I opened the door everyone jumped out and yelled "SURPRISE!!"  And the Numbats are definitely my kids: as soon as they finished yelling surprise they started pulling the streamers off the walls and "cleaning up" by draping them all over me.  Jenny had made a bunch of cupcakes (yum ^-^) and after we ate them and cleaned up, the kids started sucking helium.  I had made sugar cookies on Saturday and so after all the craziness of streamers, cupcakes and helium, we walked over to the kitchen and decorated the cookies.

Mom picked me up, we had leftovers for dinner and she and Dad left for worship practice.  I was going to go later and help out with the pre-school class.  But right when I was going to leave, I found out that I had left my keys at work.  Oops.  So I got to take a much needed break and have some real time to myself.

All in all, not a bad first day.

Even if Kevin doesn’t look thrilled, I’m so glad he was willing to be in the picture.  I love it when the kids express their love for me, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I am now officially 20.  Woot.  Now I’m off to work, good thing it’s payday.

Apparently I’m really turning 21 tomorrow.  Gotta love my mom.  I laughed so hard I started crying.

We went to dinner at California Pizza Kitchen then watched Bourne Ultimatum (and it was just as amazing as the first time).  Then I got home and blew out the candles in my birthday pie over and over again since Dad couldn’t get good pictures; though I had only two candles, I might as well have had 20.

To my last day as a teenager.  I’m so glad to bid them farewell, even if growing up really sucks.

They say third time’s a charm.  And this is the third time I’m having to say goodbye.  Please let it be the last; I don’t think my heart can take any more.

Oh.Yes.

It was freaking AWESOME!!!  I just…words escape me.  They really do.  Watch it and be in awe.  I’ve totally fallen in love with Jason Bourne all over again.

The theater was filled with everyone and their mom.  Literally.  I went by myself but ended up running into Katie from work when the theater was emptying out.  The movie was so well done but the ending was very bittersweet.  I cried a lot and in some ways, really related to it.  I can see where much of her insperation came from and I recommend it to anyone who likes Jane Austen.

Today during the car wash, Scotty came up to me and wrapped his little arms around my waist.   He looked up at me with the biggest smile and told me excitedly he and his family were leaving for Catilina Island today.  After talking for a bit he gave me another huge hug and said, "I wish I could see you everyday."  And my heart melted.

Tonight Glen led practice.  And I had a lot to say.  A.Lot.  I felt very…bossy (?).  It’s definitely a nice feeling to finally be confident in myself, not afraid to sing out and speak up.  But in some cases it scares me, hearing the sound of my own suggestions.  Sometimes I feel like I’m being too picky and controlling.  Glen did tell me that my suggestions are always welcome which helped a little bit.  I can’t help but feel that I’m being selfish sometimes though.

Oh well.  If I were completely satisfied with who I was, I wouldn’t feel the need for God.

I’ve always been really good about keeping track of my belongings.  But it seems like lately I’m forgetting things here and there and everywhere.  I don’t know why, maybe because I’ve grown more relaxed in the last year.  But whatever the case, I’ve lost my camera several times and my sunglasses.  These are two things that I never go anywhere without.  And I’m, in an almost pathetic way, very attached to them.

The glasses are perfect because they aren’t too dark so that when I remove them I’m not completely shocked by how bright everything is.  And they don’t have the nose pieces that tend to get stuck in my hair.  While wearing them I’m looking at the world in my rose-colored glasses.

When I was in Japan my camera stopped working and I felt as though I’d lost a good friend.  I love having the option to take a picture if the opportunity arises.  And not having that option drove me crazy.

I’m just thankful that every time I’ve lost either of them, they have always been found one way or the other.

P.S. Am I not pathetic for making a post about this?
