Yesterday’s Child Development class was interesting. We started discussing a theory our teacher introduced on Tuesday and a lot of people got involved. Unfortunately a few select people decided that their opinions and personal anecdotes were beneficial for everyone. Perhaps they wanted to show their intelligence. Regardless, it was annoying. Especially one lady who wouldn’t raise her hand and would just start speaking, interrupting other people including the teacher to voice her opinion. At one point I had my hand raised to make a contribution and the lady behind me jumped in with the point I was going to say. *grr* Another time I had my hand raised and the teacher looked right at me and then called on someone else who’d already spoken several times. I hope this isn’t indicative of what the rest of the semester is going to look like.

Even so, I like the class and am really excited about the upcoming lectures. It’s cool too because it looks like aside from Math all my classes will be talking about the same things. Yeah.

I guess it’s because I’m now taking Childhood Development classes that I’m thinking more about the…well, development of children.  Yesterday at work I was watching the kindergarteners run around and play with each other.  I’ve often wondered what my kids will be like when they are older.  What will my 3rd, 4th and 5th graders look and act like when they are my age?  But yesterday it was the kindergarten age group that fascinated me.  These little, little people will in no time at all become big people.  For some of them it’s not hard to imagine what they’ll be like as adults, for others it’s a bit more of a stretch.  I’m really excited about my classes and seeing what exactly this process is that they’ll be going through.  I’ll be looking not only at the pure science of their development, but the psychological aspects too.  School’s actually going to be teaching me something that pertains to daily life!  How often does that happen?

Kind of a busy first day.  Let’s recap, shall we?

8:30 am - Wake up (I know, not really early but I got home from Jason’s at 2:15 and didn’t get to sleep until 2:30).

10:00 am - Pay for school and parking permit and wait around until class starts…

11:10 am - Class begins.  She was amazing.  Penny Floor.  I am so excited about this, my first class towards my major.  She’s really energetic and smart and the class just has a good vibe to it.

12:25 pm - Get out of class and realize that I don’t have my keys.  I call Micah and Mom about 100 times and can’t get ahold of either.

12:30 pm - Register to vote.  Go me.

12:40 pm - Enter bookstore and after seeing the length of the line decide to come back later.

1:00 pm - After walking around the campus, back and forth and up and down, finally find Micah in class and ask for his keys, walk back up the hill to the car, repark it in a staff space, walk back to his classroom up another hill, pass the bookstore on the way back to the car and see how short the line is now, walk back to the car to repark in a student space, go back up the hill to the bookstore, grab two books, get in line, find out I can’t pay with a check if I want a full refund by the time I’d return the books, have my card declined three times and realize I have no cash to pay $1.25 for the drink I wanted, go back to the car and return home for 10 minutes to eat lunch, then head to work.  (Yes, that was all one sentence.)

2:10 pm - Arrive at work 10 minutes late.

3:45 pm - Get off work to return to school for the online Math orientation.

5:00 pm - Get out of the orientation early and go to the bookstore again to try again to buy the book.  Buy the book, go to the Student Center and hang out on the internet while I wait for Sara to pick me up for the staff dinner.

6:10 pm - Sara, Nicole and Christal pick me up and we head over to the Cheesecake Factory for our "Christmas" staff dinner (yes, it’s almost a month after Christmas, but we’re very busy people).  It is soooo good, both the food and the company.  I love my co-workers!

8:30 pm - Nicole is sick so we leave early and I’m finally home again.

Yay for a Tuesday/Thursday schedule.  I get to sleep in tomorrow.  *whew*

I love the internet sometimes.

I got a ticket awhile back going 85 in a 65 zone.  Oops.  I extended my due date because of our road trip and today took traffic school online.  Instead of the usual 8 hours a regular class would have taken, it took me less than an hour to complete.  Yay for the internets!

All A’s; I honestly cannot believe it but I’m not complaining.  Now I have two more classes and I will be done with my GE.  w00t.

After driving for 25 hours (starting in Abilene) we arrived back in the Bay Area at 5:30 pm.  It is so good to be back home.

It’d been a while since I had seen Greg, Tina and Sean.  Our visit involved lots of discussions, music, good food and of course, lots of Sean-time.

Sean is now four and a bundle of joy and energy (not that he wasn’t when I last saw him, but now that he can talk and run around both factors got bumped up a notch or two).  We played lots of tag, hide-and-go-seek and whatever games struck his fancy.  Playing with him reminded me of Mai, both in the energy he had and how we’d go from game to game without pause.  Fortunately I could understand him a lot better than Mai, which opened up a whole lot more possibilities in our playtime.  Definitely a highlight of the trip and hopefully an experience we can repeat in the not so distant future.

I’m very happy 2007 is over.  It’s been filled with lots and lots of drama.  I know a new year is really just another number but I’m hoping that the change in digit signifies changes in my life as well.  It was very sad to say goodbye to Brotherhood 2.0 though, I honestly almost cried when I watched the last video.  I hate goodbyes.  But in this case, I say goodbye to 2007…and good riddance.
