So.Awesome.

This past weekend Jason and I went up to Northern California.  It was rainy most of the time but that did nothing to dampen (haha) our spirits.  We left Friday afternoon, after watching "The Spiderwick Chronicles" (an amazing movie in my opinion).  We arrived at the hostel about 8 pm and were greeted by the friendly staff-person behind the counter, Matt.  Saturday we made several trips to Crescent City and then went on a hike to the Smith River through Stout Grove.  It was really nice because the rain created a mist around the Redwoods that made it very surreal and because of the weather, not a lot of people were there.  On our way back Sunday we stopped in the town where I’ll be attending school next semester and spent a good 45 minutes in a really nice store in downtown.  From this description it doesn’t sound like we did very much, but honestly, it was a really good trip and we’re hoping to make another like it in the future.  w00t.

Last Thursday afternoon my parents and I went up to visit my new school.  And it was amazing.  We arrived Thursday night in the small town where it’s located and had dinner on main street at a really cute pizza/sandwich place.  The next morning we drove over to the campus and were given a two hour tour (…) by a Junior named Sam.  The campus was gorgeous as was the town.  After the tour my parents and I had lunch in one of the six dinning facilities on campus and then headed over to the art building for my meeting with the head of the Childhood Development department.  She was really friendly and talked about the school’s view on teaching.  As she put it, they believe that experience is one of the best tools for teaching, better than reading facts from a textbook.  During a student’s Junior/Senior years, the Childhood Development finds a job in the specific field they’re interested in so they can get real life, hands-on experience.  After our meeting we got to check out an actual class and it was really exciting because the discussion revolved around theories we had just talked about in my community college ECE class.  The last part of our visit was with an admissions counselor.  We talked about housing options, general cost, application stuff and the like.  I found out I’m unofficially excepted, I just have to send in my last transcripts from this semester when I’m done.

Saturday we went back to the town and visited a few shops.  What I really like about the town is that all the restaurants and shops downtown are locally owned.  After lunch we headed back home.  The whole time we were up there it was lovely weather; not a cloud in the sky and though it was a bit chilly in the shade, the sunshine was very refreshing.  I cannot wait to live up there!

Today was a great example of why I love the Bay Area.  There was nary a cloud in the sky and while there was no breeze to speak of, the air temperature was just so that the sun helped balance everything out.  After church (whose service was really encouraging…we the worship team were rocking out and the sermon was amazing and fellowship afterwards was great) I came back home and soaked up the sun while I read.  It was the perfect spring day…in winter.  I heart you, California!

A few weeks ago I was invited by the head of Drama at school to be an extra in the play The Three Musketeers.  I e-mailed her my schedule and she wrote back saying that it wouldn’t work out.  But she did tell me that if I wanted to I could be a part of a Drama festival of sorts, a bunch of 10 minute plays.  But again, my schedule didn’t work out with rehearsal time.  I was really hoping to be a part of some kind of play before I headed off to school and maybe that’ll still happen.  But for now I’m okay with missing out on all the drama…I guess. : )

This is what my rear windshield looked like on my way to school last night.  Rain swept across the freeway and since my back windshield doesn’t have a wiper, I couldn’t see anything but vague blurs of light when looking through it.  It was really scary when I had to merge into another lane.  But God is good and He kept me safe as I drove.  Granted I arrived 10 minutes late to class but even then I made it to class right when the teacher asked if anyone’s name hadn’t been called.  I guess I wasn’t really late then.  w00t for answered prayers.  And happy February, everyone.
